Alaska’s oil tax credits are threatening to overwhelm the state budget and are expected to grow to as much as $1.7 billion a year, costing the state more than it spends for schools and becoming its single largest expense, Gov. Bill Walker warned Wednesday.

Oil-based economy and corporate welfare may get serious debate. Maybe ther's hope the 'drill, baby, drill' crowd can be quieted down. Just a bit, anyway.

followed in most states.

To me, if an industry costs more than the economic benefit derived from the jobs it creates and th business it brings in, they should be shown the door.

Oil companies were not going to leave the oil in Alaska in the ground. They should have been required to pay their way along with everyone else.
