Otherwise bright professional people seem shocked that Donald Trump is doing as well as he is.
Which is weird.
Because if you have watched the GOP dumbspiral down, down, down for the last 40 years from anyplace other than inside the Beltway bubble, Trump making a strong early showing is a perfectly logical next step. He is Crazy Uncle Liberty with money: a braying moron, invincibly confident in his own racist and impregnably ignorant opinions.

Corporations, politicians, have been doing this since the era of mass media. Lincoln got elected by winking at the Abolitionists and appealing to their votes.
Trump might not really believe what he is saying, but he knows in order to get ratings and support, he has to espouse those thoughts.

(146,308 posts)That's why he has no chance of becoming the nominee. He appeals to the racist base of that party. He appeals to the jingoistic, moronic part. But, that isn't the bulk of Republican voters, by any means. He's not going to be the nominee. Not a chance. He'll be the comic relief in the GOP primaries, along with Huckabee and Pyush Jindal.
I think we shouldn't waste much time on The Donald. He'll defeat himself just fine on his own.
