Ho lee chow!

You know whats not funny? Hate. You know whats also not funny? People going on hate-filled rants. However, you know what is funny, people going on hate-filled rants that make so little sense that they sound like someone took the worst comments from a political message board, mixed all the words around, translated them to Japanese, and then translated them back. And thats what happened at a council meeting in Lincoln, Nebraska and it resulted in one of the craziest videos youll see this week.
Recently, Nebraskan cities have been trying to deal with the lack of protection that LGBT citizens have from discrimination. The states anti-discrimination laws dont cover sexual orientation. YouTube user aksarbent has been uploading videos of some of the more interesting moments from hearings on the issue. One of them, he or she labeled Best in Show! and, good lord, is that not hyperbole.
Wearing a big white hat, a woman gets up and reads a screed that you need to hear to believe. She begins by accusing the ABC show Wipeout of being produced in Holland by gays, bis, and orgiers who like to see people perishing. At least I think thats what shes saying. And it just gets weirder and weirder.

The Lincoln Journal Star says her family has thought the same thing -- for her need to get psychiatric help.[link: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/324763#ixzz1v4vwQLPO|Link. ]
Her brother, Patrick Svoboda of Ogallala said her family has tried to get her help multiple times, but unless she harms herself or others, there's not much more they can do.
Meet Jane Svoboda. She is a 52-year-old woman diagnosed with schizophrenia Svoboda lives at an assisted-living facility in Lincoln and is listed as a protected person, according to Journal Star. Her brother, Patrick Svoboda, is her conservator because she is incompetent, the documents say.
I will add this, her brother claims that this is a sad statement on society -- but I really have to wonder, why and how is her being allowed to say what she is saying not harming other people?
It's an honest question, she is a registered Nebraska lobbyist. Her words do cause harm.

(15,445 posts)The woman is a certified schizophrenic, who lives in assisted housing and is under the power of attorney of her brother because she's been judged incompetent. Very sad story. She should not be a object of ridicule.
Edit: Post scriptum to the story--the proposed city ordinance being debated in this video to protect LGBT people was ultimately voted in by the Lincoln, NE. city council. There is hope even in dark red NE.

He was unaware of the video's popularity, but wasn't surprised -- he knew it would be a matter of time before she got in trouble somewhere. He said he's disappointed the video garnered such attention and jokes without the whole story. "To me, it shows how little society really cares about people with mental health issues," Patrick Svoboda said. "She does have a very tender heart ... but anything she says is certifiably schizophrenic ... she's not some crazy conservative." He said her family has tried to get her help multiple times, but unless she harms herself or others, there's not much more they can do.
