OMG, this woman is something else....there are actually people in the world like this????

Terrifying!!!

Christian Woman Records Herself Losing It Over Marriage Equality, Gets Remixed
Christian housewife Becky Wegner Rommel's epic homophobic and Islamophobic video meltdown has not only gone viral, it's inspired a new remix.

64-year-old Ellettsville, Ind., Christian housewife Becky Wegner Rommel induced an explosion of laughs throughout the internet after a video she recorded of herself having a monumental meltdown over marriage equality was posted to her Facebook page and began going viral.

“God says that marriage is between a man and a woman … I don’t care if you think I’m judging you,” Rommel screams into her cellphone camera before she fires off a string of incoherent Islamophobic comments to complement her homophobic hysteria. “Jesus Christ, not Mohammad, OK. It’s just like these Islamic extremeless — extremists — OK? They’re not just extremists. They’re Islamic! President Obama, Islamic! Extremeless!”

However, Queerty reports the attention Rommel received from her viral rant caused the “Christian” to delete her Facebook page Thursday, but not before one studious soul was able to copy the video and upload it to YouTube.

But the crazy train hasn’t stopped there.

Internet satirical character Mrs. Betty Bowers, “America’s Best Christian” (played by comedian Deven Green), has shared a new video of Rommel remixed to perfection with another woman whose reaction to all things “darksided” became an internet sensation of its own a few years ago.....

And I can't get to the Advocate article either by the link in the OP or Google.

Incidentally, Elletsville, IN is a small town right outside of liberal Bloomington. In fact, the rest of the county is blue. Ellettsville is part of a gerrymandered district that just takes a tiny sliver of Monroe County to connect it with rural, more conservative counties to the north and south.

And I have seen at least three young--they look to be high school age--boys proudly flying the Confederate flag from their pick-up trucks in the last few days in Ellettsville.

ETA: Saw the Betty Bowers remix. Advocate website was down for a bit.

(To use her terminology.)

Wackos have to wack. It is the only thing they know, which is kind of amazing given the few number of functioning neurons they possess.

And they even have an entire major US political party at their disposal, which (by the way) has both houses of the federal congress and a majority of state legislatures and governorships at their bidding.

Democrats are losing this battle... To whom? To ignorant know nothings like this crazy lady. Crazy has taken over.

The only relevance is that they have both federal houses of the US Congress, a majority of state legislatures, and a majority of governors' mansions.

So what is our plan? I recommend setting aside infighting over whether Hillary supported Goldwater, or that Bernie supports the second amendment (or whatever minutia one can come up with).

The fact is, the GOP is kicking our butt. Now I do not think their clown car occupants will anytime soon gain the White House. But there will be Hell to pay if they ever do. God knows they have the rest of the marbles.

Meanwhile here at DU, we have childish infighting about an election which is 16 months away.

We are being played. That is why the GOP has most of the marbles.

The extent to which we do not unite is the extent to which we will continue to lose.

Her problem is that there isn't an angry mob running by to join.

We have many nice ladies who feel as she does around here, even if they don't act out on line. They may be wonderful to those in their ingroup, but they are blind to what it means to be a strong social conservative in an era that is encouraging them to act on their anxiety and are totally clueless about their potential for evil behavior against others. For that matter, there probably isn't one in ten who actually knows what a liberal is, just that they need to somehow stop "them" before "they" destroy the country.

Oh, and I SO agree we need to refuse to be played.

32. I think the ability to organize
Mon Jul 6, 2015, 09:53 AM
Jul 2015

is the ability to look at yourself and say that I may be wrong on this issue. That is what I think the sane (read Democrat) people of America have. The nutters like this woman will never admit to being wrong about anything. My uncle is one. Never wrong about anything and cannot therefore agree with any one. Can you see Donald Trump say, "I may be wrong about this or that". Or Ted Cruz, or any of the other 16-18 insane people who are running for president. I think the Ds of the world have the ability to look at issues and say that they need to rethink. I think even some Rs will come around to the view that some of the things that they are against, they really are not against, because they don't understand what it is they are against. Like being against healthcare for all. Not everyone gets sick, but everyone has a relative or friend who is or gets there. Not everyone has student debt, but know someone who does which prevents them from being productive human beings for having to pay off that debt (much like Greece). Not everyone has to get there car fixed, but they pay insurance for that to happen. This is like an insurance policy. I don't think goop is kicking our butt. They had their opportunity and were too inept to capitalize. Admittedly we had to suffer through Bill Clinton and his triangulation, but things still were good then. There are voices in the wilderness, right wing Christian voices, who are having epiphanies around us and are leading there misguided flocks to the trough of human kindness. We see the pope having come to the correct conclusion. Who cares that magic smoke is waved about and magic turns water to blood etc., as long as the out come is what is truly good for mankind, earth and its other inhabitants.
Who care what our candidates did or supported in the past. They are seeing the truth now, and maybe knew the truth then and had no options. Now they do. Bernie is my man. Never gave money to a political person before, but I did to Bernie. But you know what, Hillary is a good person who came down wrong on some things, but so did a lot of people. Maybe she felt she had no option, but she does lots of good things and supports lots of good things. And if she is the candidate, I will support her. And I will not do so grudgingly, but happily. I just do not want our candidates to say and do things nasty to the other. Disagree, OK. Defend, OK. Sarcastically disarm, not OK. I apologize for the disjointed way this all came out. Just off the top of my head. We have the strength and we need to use it.

Mon Jul 6, 2015, 01:05 PM

... but I was really making a different point. We're not losing because people like her are doing something strategically brilliant and out maneuvering us somehow. I.e, we're NOT losing to "people like her". We're losing because interests who ARE strategically brilliant are "using her" - and millions like her in one way or another - to do their bidding at the voting booth. We would do better to try and educate someone as misguided as she is to exactly how she's being used - rather than mocking her and making fun of her (which likely only strengthens her resolve to remain ignorant).

She's much more like us than she is the Koch brothers, no? She just doesn't realize it.

But by my thinking, ridiculous arguments deserve only ridicule. And the more blatant the ridiculous argument, the more one should pile on the ridicule.

I may be wrong on this, but just the fact that people take the woman in the OP seriously means that one is battling a different kind of enemy.

How else other than merely laughing out loud in their faces? Using ridicule.

BTW, the GOP presidential clown car is full of them. And one of them is going to be the GOP nominee for president of the USA. What then does it say that these kind of arguments are mainstream? That day the world is in big poo-poo.

I will leave it to others to decide for themselves whether we have crossed that line, but I have long since decided for myself where these people would take us if they gain power. Well, they have both houses of the US Congress, a fingernail's hold on the Supreme Court, and a clear majority in the state legislatures and governors' mansions.

If we lose the White House in 2016, we may lose everything... Forever! IMHO, the GOP are that fucking nuts.

After we posted the video, several other major media outlets picked up the story (some without attribution). And, just like that, Becky became either national laughing stock or a conservative heroine, depending on where you sit on the political scale.
Well today, Mrs. Rommel’s Facebook page (along with the fascinating video, unfortunately) has been deleted. And it appears she’s begun scrubbing the internet of her existence. Luckily, we were able to track her down on Instagram before she deleted that account, and it turns out, she’s quite a colorful character. She also might be a tad forgetful when it comes to the good book. For instance, chapter 19, verse 28 in the book of Leviticus (which is where most of the antigay folks find the scripture they twist and misinterpret) reads: “You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord.” Lo and behold, Becky’s foot is sporting some stylish ink that might have led to her being stoned in days of yore. And don’t get us started on the hair…
Seriously, though, it might be fun to have a drink with her some time, but only in a gay bar of course. Upon inspection, we think she has more in common with gay men than she seems to think. Other than her political views, she’s really pretty fabulous. ...

She would do a modified version of this drama AT WORK, when something happened that she considered 'anti-christian'. The end of DOMA set her off, and she was disciplined. The ACA set her off (yea, she rationalized that as an affront against Christianity). I left before the SCOTUS marriage equality decision, but I can just imagine how she reacted. And yet, she keeps her job because people are down right intimidated by her behavior.
