Council Votes To Move Nathan Bedford Forrest's Remains

MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com)--The Memphis City Council unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday to move the remains of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his wife from Health Sciences Park.

They have been buried in a park on Union Avenue for 110 years.

Council members are also moving ahead with plans to remove the statue of Forrest, even looking at selling the statue to anyone who wants it.

I can see removing the statue but leave the resting place alone.

The Flag was a symbol of hate and oppressing Civil Rights. Do we need to disturb someone's resting place. YES Slavery was wrong. Yes, the white Americans need to apologize for the sins of the past BUT we can't place 21st Century views upon history.

A number of people here at DU have expressed a want to relieve themselves on it.

Nathan Bedford Forrest was a murderous bastard who slaughtered black Union prisoners, and helped to start the Ku Klux Klan.
