Jeb!: No minimum wage and longer hours for Americans

Jeb! (previously known as Jeb Bush before he replaced "Bush" with "!" on his posters), is all for screwing American workers even more than they've been screwed. Here are some of the opinions of "the smart one."

Jeb Bush has argued publicly against the federal minimum wage. He’s also called for imposing a higher retirement age on Americans.

snip

The GOP presidential contender made his suggestion during an interview with the conservative New Hampshire newspaper, The Union Leader, ..." We have to be a lot more productive. Workforce participation has to rise from its all-time modern lows."

snip

"...It means that people need to work longer hours and, through their productivity, gain more income for their families. That’s the only way we’re going to get out of this rut that we’re in.”

snip

Some of this is surprisingly tone-deaf and some of it’s just incorrect.
But it’s Jeb’s insistence that Americans “need to work longer hours” that’s likely to haunt him for a while. Mitt Romney’s out-of-touch rhetoric didn’t do his GOP campaign any favors in 2012, and Bush is well on his way to contracting the same foot-in-mouth disease.

Many people see him as the only "relatively" sane candidate. As far as I'm concerned, the entire GOP, including Jeb!, went over the crazy cliff long ago.

Work harder, and longer for less money so the top can grab more - then blame the poor and middle class for being lazy and greedy. Friggin idiots.

And now that Repubs are fighting hard to do away with overtime pay and minimum wage, there's going to be an even smaller workforce being worked to death for peanuts while the rest of the country starves to death.

Jeb! has just insulted everybody who has a job or is looking for one. We're not productive enough, we don't work hard enough. And just to prove he so out of touch that he has exactly zero concept of "work", somehow longer hours and "harder work" (whatever the hell that means) automatically translates into "more income for their families". While that may be somewhat true for those who are fortunate enough to get overtime, for most it is not.

I know several people who would be happy to re-join the workforce...if there any fucking jobs to be had!

I am so tired of this meme that somehow all the nation's woes can be laid at the feet of the unemployed and any other wealth-challenged Americans. And I'm even more tired of politicians--on both sides of the aisle--who seem to believe that we elected them to be our parents.

After a town hall meeting at the Hudson VFW, Bush sought to clarify the remarks by saying he was referring only to those working part time who need more access to full time work. He said he was “absolutely not” talking about those already working full time or carrying more than one job.

Perhaps Jeb! and other pols don't understand that their every utterance is out there forever. They are still living in a world where they believe they can change their message depending on the audience.

Hey, Jeb!, much of the audience is connected to the net. Outside of most of those over perhaps about 60ish, only the brainwashed will vote for you or any other Republican.

You and the rest of your party are talking yourselves into an ancient history museum which has a huge "Republican Party" sign over the entrance.

Employees working more hours does not increase productivity and it drives down the workforce participation rate because fewer people are doing all the work.
