Josh Earnest Rips GOP over Confederate Flag, Refusal to Denounce Race-Baiting Trumpby Josh Feldman
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest opened todays press briefing by taking a bunch of shots at Republicans over the Confederate flag and Donald Trump.
Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed an amendment to ban Confederate flags from federal cemeteries. Overnight there was some drama on Capitol Hill over an amendment proposed by a Republican to roll back some of the restrictions about Confederate flags on federal land.
Earnest led todays presser by saying the GOP has values and priorities that lie elsewhere and said he found it striking how eager some Republicans were to protect the Confederate flag.
He then tied that move to hit the entire Republican party on race, bringing up how the current House Majority Whip once reportedly called himself David Duke without the baggage and how the GOP wont denounce the race-baiting rhetoric of a leading Republican candidate.
(Take a guess who he was talking about.)
He concluded by saying the GOP agenda is clearly out of step with the vast majority of Americans.

(31,234 posts)Republicans. No one will ever make me understand that phenomenon. Mia Love, Tim Scott, Allen West? It's almost as if they have to compartmentalize/minimize their blackness in order to fit in with a party that doesn't respect them. Why would anyone do that?

(10,044 posts)I lived in PA all my life till I was 55 or so, and moved to Michigan. In PA (Pittsburgh area) I never saw a confederate flag. In Michigan, I was told that trucks were seen in Port Huron all the time with that flag on it, and I never saw them nor would have paid any attention to them had I seen them.
Michigan is where that guy Timothy McVeigh who blew up the federal building in Oklahoma lived, and I hav e heard that there are a bunch of folks up where he lived that don't like to obey laws because they infringe on their rights. And I'm really not sure who flies the flag up there or dorns their trucks with it.
If you look up "confederate flag in Michigan" in Search, you'll find the flag is still being used by some and neighbors hate it..
So, when the issue of the flag came up, I never connected it with black slavery, I thought it just meant that these folks hate the north, not blacks, just the north, and the Government. I think they're into survival and love their guns. It's still a symbol of hate, but I misunderstood who the hate was for.
I'm happy to see that the flag is going down in the south where it stood for selling babies of slaves, beatings, etc., but don't know if it'll ever come down up in middle/northern Michigan...

(15,229 posts)so with these ongoing, regular police murders of innocent civilians, the US is effectively authorising war crimes, although in this case, perpetrated deliberately, and by officers of the law. Not that dissimilar from the Nazi regime in Germany and its occupied countries, during the WWII.
