Friends rally for kids sent to detention center for refusing to have lunch with dad

http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/story/29504600/friends-rally-for-kids-sent-to-jail-for-refusing-have-lunch-with-dad

The story of the Tsimhoni family has many in Detroit scratching their heads. The three kids, all under the age of 18, were ordered to have a relationship with their father. But when they refused to attend a court-ordered lunch, they were thrown in a detention center.

Now, the kids not only are not seeing their father, they're not seeing mom, either. That's not sitting well with a group of Metro Detroit moms who rallied at the Oakland County Courthouse on Wednesday....

The Tsimhoni family from Bloomfield Hills have had their issues; Maya Eibschitz-Tsimhoni and Omer Tsimhoni have gone through a messy divorce and have been in and out of court. That all came to a head two weeks ago.

On June 24, the family was in court for a hearing on supervised parenting time. According to transcripts obtained by FOX 2, the judge was upset the kids refused to spend time with their father and go to a court-ordered lunch. At that point, she ordered the 15, 10, and 9 year old kids to Children's Village and then said they may all be staying their until the age of 18 unless they change their minds.

There is usually a very good reason for kids to reject a parent and the custodial parent isn't nearly as powerful as the non custodial parent thinks s/he is at turning the kids away.

This decision is clearly insane. I can see court ordered family therapy sessions involving the dad, but nothing more.

Her son at one point even tried to explain to the judge why he didn't want to spend time with his dad.

"Because he is violent and I saw him hit my mom," he said in court documents.

But Judge Gorcyca claimed he had been brainwashed.

in family court, she's clearly bringing too much of her own baggage into court.

Brainwashed, my flabby old ass. Kids don't tend to lie about stuff like this and Mama's coaching goes only so far if they love their Dad.

The woman keeps referring the the 15-year old as "a defiant child" and won't let the mother say goodbye to him before they march him off to the "Children's Village" (freaking Orweliian that).

because he's old enough to have a say in visitation schedules. Instead, this judge sends him to a state youth facility (or as the judge refers to it, 'jail) because he won't comply with her order to develop "a healthy relationship" with his father. Sure, that's gonna work out.

Then the judge had the middle child agreeing to meet with his father and try, but after the youngest child refused the middle one changed his mind because he wanted to go with his brother.

Neither parent wanted their children in state care. After reading the hearing transcript ( "You're not your big, defiant brother who's living in jail. Do you want to live in jail?&quot I hope that the judge is censured.

Does she really think she can force someone to have a healthy relationship?
Now the children are locked up in what judge called a "jail" and father went off to Israel for work.

true emotion.

I wonder if there was some worry that Dad would take the kids to Israel when he went. I once worked on a case where the mother was worried about that.

I and my ex lived in different states. One of my greatest fears was that he would take them across the state line and I would lose custody. Fortunately for me my kids hardly knew their Dad who visited them once a year for two days so they never wanted to go with him to stay. He called welfare on me but the lady was smart enough to talk to the girls - not me.

In this case it wasn't to long ago that the judge would have asked the kids who they wanted to live with and not interfere with their wishes. I hope someone in Detroit looks into this. For one thing they are paying for jail time for three children Who have a perfectly good home with their mother. Unheard of.

while the children are in "jail" (that's what judge called this facility herself, jail). Father is allowed to see them, but he went off to Israel for work.
The judge also ordered children to be separated from each other.
These children have to be going through horrible trauma right now. They are in "jail" separated from their mother and each other, yet they haven't committed any crimes.

So my search on the actual title turned up squat.

Technically, the no dupes rule applies only to LBN, but I consider it to be bad form. An exception is when the search hit I get is in some obscure group like Interfaith.
