Yet another blow to Miss USA pageant: Ticket sales sluggish; 1,000-plus seats still unsold

BATON ROUGE -- About one-third of seats were still available for the Miss USA main event as of Thursday afternoon, with just three days left before the pageant’s main event scheduled for Sunday evening at the Baton Rouge River Center.

The famed beauty pageant, which is being hosted for the second year in Baton Rouge, was a sold out show last year when it was held in the same venue.

“The finals sold out pretty quickly last year,” said Michael Day, general manager of the Baton Rouge River Center.

The River Center’s capacity is almost 5,000 seats, Day said.

There were at least 1,600 seats still available Thursday afternoon, according to a map on Ticketmaster.com that displays available seats for purchase. Day attested that the website is accurate and up to date.

As far as I'm concerned, killing off these stupid "Miss Whatever" pageants ought to be as worthy a goal as getting rid of the Confederate flag.

The Confederate flag symbolizes and enshrines racism and slavery. These "beauty pageants" symbolize and enshrine the objectification of women.

Enough!

The young women who participate in these things are surely not entirely willing, are they?

It was always some kind of big deal. Bert Parks was a household name. They actually gave the measurements of the women. It seemed to fade as the internet and cable came along. Then, everybody started having these competitions.

Then and now:

More likely the antics of Donald Trump has soured the event.
