STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. ... State lawmaker Ladawn Jones has received dozens of emails, tweets and messages over the past week. Some of them appear to be threatening ...
Some of the authors were intending to be threatening, but they didnt threaten me at all, Jones told Channel 2s Erin Coleman. In fact, what they did was highlight why this is an important issue in 2015 ...
... on places like Stone Mountain thats run by a state authority, or state property, the Confederate flag should not fly with the U.S. flag and the Georgia flag, Jones added.
Stone Mountain Park spokesman John Bankhead says the flags fly in one area of the park. He also points out the mountain was established by state law as a memorial to the Confederacy.

(54,770 posts)For people who are too young to remember, or who don't care, the park can be a nice family place. I just can't forget, and avoid the place. It would be nice if the flags were removed and a monument to those hurt by slavery and racism erected.
The carving, while confederate crud, is large and some kind of achievement, I suppose. Would be nice to see something counter to that in the park, as well
