Florida Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz thinks President Barack Obama should slow down with Cuba before continuing to reopen relations between the two countries.
My view is different from President Obamas, the DNC chairwoman said in an interview with The Daily Signal published Thursday. I believe a relationship with the United States should be earned
perhaps we should make sure that some of these human rights concessions are secured prior to moving forward.
Obama announced last week that both countries will re-open embassies in their respective capitals after more than 50 years....
Anytime were at the negotiating table with any nation like Cuba that has as horrendous a human rights record as they do, its an opportunity to be able to assert our view that making sure that any nation in the world should have freedom of their elections, that people should have the right to elect a person of their choice, that they should be able to speak freely, even if it is against the actions of their government and not be subject to arrest, that they should be able to make sure they can move freely throughout their country, she said.So President Obamas policy allows us to be able to press those priorities at the negotiating table.

and what's this nonsense about 'free and fair elections', when Citizens United still stands as Judicial Precedent/law??
Registered Democratic VOTERS should get to elect the National Democratic Chairperson in off-year elections, as prep for the Presidential General 2 years later (maybe)??

(5,644 posts)She tried to play it off early on because she was for Hillary all the way. But the last I saw of her on Bill Maher's show, she was not trying to protest anything some Republic0n was saying about Obama, but Bill did.
I wonder what she has against Obama, previous primary w/Hillary?

(5,644 posts)I wonder if she has to say that in order to keep her job. Maybe she has constituents that migrated from Cuba to Florida and they don't want this to happen.
flamingdem
(39,313 posts)The younger ones are absolutely in favor of that. Her constituents, even if conservative, should be not much less than the national polling averages of 60-70% in favor of opening to Cuba.
She's all about getting money from conservatives on that issue and Israel and gaining power through her alliances with her pals, the Florida Republicans.
