Time for Ted Cruz to resign.

How the Religious Right Scams Its Way Onto the New York Times Bestseller List

What’s Christian about evangelical authors using shady business tactics in a bid to boost visibility on bestseller lists?

In January 2012, former megachurch pastor Mark Driscoll’s book Real Marriage went to the top spot on the Hardcover Advice section of The New York Times best-seller list. In March 2014, it was disclosed by evangelical magazine, World, that Driscoll’s publishing success was aided by a consulting firm called ResultSource, which purchased books on behalf of Driscoll in a coordinated effort to spike sales and give the impression that the book was popular with thousands of book buyers. Driscoll recently resigned from his church and one factor associated with his departure is the decision to buy his way onto the best-seller list....

It may be surprising that Christian authors would use tactics that even those outside the church consider unethical. Although the practice is a matter of considerable controversy within the evangelical world, some popular Christian authors have embraced ResultSource....

The bottom line is you’re selling these books and they’re just not getting noticed. If you want the books to be noticed so that you can reach more people with them, you’ve got to figure out how to do that. I don’t know all of the ramifications of it, but I know that you can’t just write a book and say I’m not going to have anything to do with marketing. If you don’t care enough about it to try and figure out how to get it in the hands of other people, nobody else is going to either....

Ted Cruz should resign, following the honorable decision of Ted Driscoll.

1. What I don't get is why the book table at Costco is covered with crap like that

I was there the other day and there they sat - books by Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, Mike Huckabee. Don't recall whether Cruz had one there or not.

Does Costco get their books from one of those right wing wholesalers?

I can't believe any party would allow it. I guess all the candidates could just sell books while they go from one state to another.

5. Palets of books with bogus "best-seller" claims probably come cheap to wholesalers like Costco.

Perhaps these books have been put back on the market by promotional companies like ResultSource.

Sometimes they vanish for a while and then mysteriously reappear.

And there's always some old guy standing there in his ban lon shirt with his pants pulled up to his nipples, leafing through them.

He does have stellar academic credentials, so I really don't know quite what to make of him.

My thought is that he is more a huckster playing a character to make money off the loons.

11. Maybe OP didn't mention that the right is yammering foul because bulk purchases of Cruz's own book

are keeping it off the NY Times' bestseller list. As the Times' rep explained, ""In the case of this book, the overwhelming preponderance of evidence was that sales were LIMITED TO strategic bulk purchases,"...

But, hey, I agree. Among all the dishonorable, corrupt political behaviors that have become institutionalized, why would Cruz resign over just a slimy attempt to defraud a dud onto the bestseller list? The title is pretty funny, though: "A Time for Truth."

beliefs. I *do* know what to make of him, even his face is repulsive. I wouldn't give him credit that he is playing a character. He's a total jerk.

My comments are all aimed at him, not attacking you!1
