People In Toronto Created A Memorial To A Dead Raccoon After The City Forgot To Pick It Up

Just after 9 a.m. Thursday morning a good citizen of Toronto saw a dead raccoon on the sidewalk. He alerted the city’s contact centre to come get the animal.

But around noon the raccoon was still there. And someone put a note next to it.

Six hours after being reported to the city, the raccoon was still on the sidewalk. People had started to create something of a memorial to it.

Almost two hours later, the raccoon was still there. Someone wrote #deadraccoonto on a piece of paper. A hashtag was born.

And it just kept snowballing from there:

The candle light vigil was something else....!!

Reminds me of the PENIS POTHOLE SOLUTION.....cleverly signed by "Wanksy!"

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/the-filter/11570595/Meet-the-man-using-penises-to-fill-potholes.html

Who knew that UK streets would start to resemble those of ancient Pompeii, where similar symbolism was used to point the way to the unnnhhhhh....'house of ill repute!'

I see nothing "sick" about any of this. It's very funny, clever and creative.

And the city worker who collected the raccoon seemed like kind of a dick. He grabbed the raccoon and some of the flowers went flying and he just collected the raccoon and left the rest of the memorial in disarray. He seemed tone deaf to the humor of the situation.

In any event, I don't think Toronto would be any more efficient about retrieving human remains.

It just sat there for weeks, right in front of our building.

They are at the top of their animal-carcass-removal game in Toronto.

Poor little guy.

Yonge is a very busy, main street.

While 2 weeks for residential pickup is disgraceful, 14 hrs for downtown TO is still a woefully pathetic response.

The Animal Services was a jerk because his department was getting nagged and couldn't ignore the request for service like they usually do. Brilliant!

so many animals die and their bodies are discarded without any care or dignity because "it's an animal" and many don't give a crap.

these people gave a crap.

rip little one.
