We recognize that the individual right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans' Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation.

What do you disagree with?

Firearms. We recognize that the individual right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans' Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation. We understand the terrible consequences of gun violence; it serves as a reminder that life is fragile, and our time here is limited and precious. We believe in an honest, open national conversation about firearms. We can focus on effective enforcement of existing laws, especially strengthening our background check system, and we can work together to enact commonsense improvements—like reinstating the assault weapons ban and closing the gun show loophole—so that guns do not fall into the hands of those irresponsible, law-breaking few.

For my part, I disagree with the AWB bit. The rest of it--assuming that "closing the gun show loophole" means universal background checks--is fine with me...

Does not equate to supporting the NRA...which is no longer about guns but is simply a right wing enforcement squad. Many gun owners (myself included) are perfectly fine with reasonable gun restrictions like background checks and want nothing to do with the NRA. I'd jump for joy if they were gone as well.

As far as arming teachers and school personnel that is a prime case of right wing nuttery. Those who maintain that the various school massacres are some sort of government conspiracy, that embraces Ted Nugent types and their hate speech go beyond right wing nuttery. It is fine with me to judge by the company you keep.

8. Two problems

One, the Confederate flag wasn't nearly as good for business as firearms are. Two, progressives aren't nearly as persistent about firearms as they've recently been about the Confederate flag.

It is indeed about firearms and not about the NRA. Too many think people think the NRA has power over conservative gun owners, when it is actually conservative gun owners that give the NRA its power.

Getting the N word out of white mainstream vocabulary at least showed we refuse to accept that racist reminder of slavery. Similarly the political correctness of removing the confederate flag sends a message that African Americans will not be openly insulted by main stream America. Political correctness can be a form of fighting racism too. So it was a great win, and preventing displays like that flag by mass revulsion is a great step in the right direction.

If Nixon could kill the Black Panther Movement Obama could've declared war on these white supremacist groups but didn't. I'm from the south I've grown up looking at the confederate flag and hate it but at the same time I realize this is was a compromise fall back position. We could be freeing prisoners of the racist war on drugs or taking guns from racist gun nuts or getting reparations for slavery or do something about voter ID laws. This was small. I actually feel like this is more dangerous because it creates the impression that racism is dead when it isn't. At least that flag reminded me that we still had something to struggle against. Maybe I'm paranoid or maybe this is the lull before the storm. I can't call it to be honest but I'll just leave you with this question here-Would you rather live in a racist society without racist symbols or an unracist society with its symbols still present?

And it is a mistake to misunderstand this. They are the lobbying arm of the gun manufacturers.

They are interested in PROFIT, not amendments. They thrive on generating FEAR in the populace, in order to promote gun sales.

But private citizens can still fly it. Nothing has been taken down because the law still (for the time being) allows for the freedom to think and speak differently than the prevailing political winds find fashionable. Moreover, if people formed a political group to petition to re-raise the Confederate flag it would be fair to argue the US government would be obligated to protect their peaceable political activities.

The NRA is just such a private organization. It has no flag to take down and hoping that some governor or other government body comes out to sign an order forcing them into silence will take down the American flag rather than any banner that might be flown by a lobbying group.
