In September of 1961, as a protest to the burgeoning racial integration of this country, the . . . .

. . . . state of South Carolina raised the confederate battle flag/stars and bars/American swastika/whatever you want to call it to the top of the statehouse. It flew there until 2000, when sufficient pressure was brought to bear on its defenders to move it from the capital dome to a nearby flagpole.

And there it would still be were it not for even more pressure from all corners of the country to pull it down. Right wing governor Haley would not have done a damned thing to take it down were it not for this pressure. A healer she is not, her pious intonements of kumbayah notwithstanding.

But the biggest lesson here is the reason it went up in the first place: a direct reaction of white people to gains in racial equality. The flag is, in fact, a racially charged emblem of hate.

Next time some fat, white fuck tells you the flag honors his gran'daddy's service as a soldier, you can tell him he's full of shit. There are other ways to honor your gran'daddy.

And yeah, what about those soldiers who fought for the confederacy? Well, the fact is they were fighting for TRAITORS. They may or may not have been, individually, traitors, but they were sure as hell fighting in support of them

Since when do we honor traitors?

The flag came down today. Rather than celebrate and thank those who, caving to pressure, ordered it down, I will look on in scorn at those who STILL want it flying someplace.

"Honor your gran'daddy" my ass.

And how about the rest of you dumbfucks who have the stars and bars, or some part of it, as a part of YOUR state flags? How about you governors who allow that piece of shit flag to be on your license plates?

How about it.

Enough is enough.

You bigoted motherfuckers.
