Pat Buchanan warns of another Civil War: The time of mass right-wing civil disobedience is at hand"A secession of the heart has already taken place," he said using rhetoric that is in no way inflammatory
SCOTT ERIC KAUFMAN
In his latest column at WorldNetDaily, paleoconservative commentator Pat Buchanan argued that given the Supreme Courts ruling that legalized same-sex marriage and the Oklahoma Supreme Courts decision to remove the Ten Commandments monument from the state capitol grounds, a rebellion unlike any seen since the Civil Rights Movement is likely to arise from the right.
Buchanan situated this coming era of civil disobedience in a long tradition that began with the Founding Fathers. What else was our revolution but a rebellion to overthrow the centuries-old rule and law of king and parliament, and establish our own? he asked.
U.S. Supreme Court decisions have been defied and those who defied them lionized by modernity, he added without noting that the positions his civilly disobedient activists would support wouldnt be lionized by modernity, given that theyre based on the teachings of a man who if he ever even lived has been dead for 2,000 years.
Buchanan connected the coming struggle with the Civil Rights Movement in particular, with Martin Luther King, Jr., whose Letter from Birmingham Jail he quoted. One has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws, King wrote, to which Buchanan replied, what is an unjust law?

(961 posts)That's more of a liberal/progressive thing.
Conservatives tend to protest in other ways that aren't as much physically noticeable as they are economically noticeable and directed at certain activities they view to be undesirable.

(20,851 posts)The party of Eisenhower would never be the same again. The festering stink bug that is the modern Republican party is all that is left thanks to people like Pat. He killed the election for Bush Sr. The thing to remember is Pat has been saying this forever and instead of the civil war he thinks is coming, instead old bigots like him are slowly sinking without most of us much remembering them. His fears are baseless and no one wants to "die" to prevent gay marriage. They just don't, Pat.

. Others consider him the Devil incarnate. Dr. King is one of the most divisive men in contemporary history.
Let me add Pat Buchanan's words about the Confederate Flag, in a dust up with Carol Mosley Brown in 1993:
" The War Between the States was about independence, about self-determination, about the right of a people to break free of a government to which they could no longer give allegiance. How long is this endless groveling before every cry of racism going to continue before the whole country collectively throws up?"

(73,558 posts)You raise a very important point on a huge topic. And I think that it sheds light on why a paleoconservative like Buchanan was opposed the the Bush wars in Iraq, but seems eager for open warfare in the streets of America's cities.
When you look at a list such as the one you provide here, it is apparent that these types of violent crimes -- which he appears to consider so common place that they do not warrant mention in his desired war -- all tend to involve attacking victims considered unlikely to fight back.
Good post, Friend Solly Mack. Thank you.

(90,769 posts)He said that Anders Breivik may be right. Breivik murdered 77 people in Norway because he hated Muslims and "multiculturalism". That both were destroying white, Christian Europe.
Right up Pat's alley.
Pat's a racist, straight up. P.B. knows exactly what he's doing and saying - and he wants his words to inspire violence.
He also wants to pretend that he is merely an observer and a pundit that simply comments on events. He does so, always assuming he can't be touched and will never himself be harmed. He would deny any connection between his nationwide voice and those he inspires.
I think he counts on our not retaliating. He counts on the compassion and empathy of the victims and their family and friends. He knows our actions are driven by our belief in things like equality and justice. Believing thusly, we'd behave in a certain way. He counts on it.
He also knows his audience and he knows how to arouse them.

(39,215 posts)first shot. Pat Buchanan is a royal idiot. We have just had a kid kill 9 beautiful Christians in order to start a race war and this idiot insights more violence calling for more of the same. And at a time of high stress in our nation when SC moved in a truly peaceful manner. Instead Pat wants more "war". Wonder how many fools sent him some more money tonight?
