Five leading lawmakers from the Democratic Party in the United States have called on President Barack Obama to urge the International Monetary Fund to revisit the terms of Jamaica’s current economic program.

This towards assisting the Simpson Miller-administration to achieve significant economic growth.

In a letter sent to President Obama yesterday, the lawmakers said Jamaica’s economic programme has been characterized by continued low growth, high unemployment and threats to social cohesion.

A media release from the US House Financial Services Committee says the lawmakers’ petition on behalf of Jamaica, was led by Congresswoman Maxine Waters, whose a senior member of the committee.

The Committee has jurisdiction over US participation in the IMF and the World Bank.
