It looks like a little cartoon man. Maybe it's a bad caricature of Robert E. Lee?

Apparently it's a depiction of an antebellum plantation owner. So a Florida middle school is named after Robert E. Lee and had as a mascot a cartoon depiction of an antebellum plantation owner (a slave owner, in other words). Wow. How many African American students went to that school and saw that giant image on the outside every day?
