Trump's comment may be a calculated way of getting out of the race

Why?..This way he can blame others, for his leaving, rather than quitting on his own. It is just the kind of thing a bully would do. Bully someone, then those against him force him out. Calculated to do just that. Why? Business in trouble, and furthermore, he really was playing a game, and the game went bad..that is he became too popular, that is he was winning a race, for the moment anyway, that he really did not want to win. It was a game..He doesn't want to play no more, and

he doesn't want to look like he quit. He ain't no quitter, but he is

Couldn't you say that about practically every statement that Trump makes? pampango Jul 2015 #6

Then we reconsidered. Trump has no control over his brain or mouth. He's like Palin only louder.

I think he just runs his mouth without thinking and then just keeps running it.

Although, that would be a good way to avoid having to show he's not worth nearly as much as he says he is...

I think he is that smart. Yes, he runs his mouth, but I do believe he never thought he would be in front, he doesn't like the idea of actually "running for president" as opposed to playing a game to run, and treating it as a joke. As a liar, he sure wouldn't tell the truth about his true intentions, or just quit suddenly. So this is the perfect way to get out.
.Also, I do believe he has always disliked Mc Cain, so that part is the truth, but saying this in this way, in my opinion is just a way to get out of the race in a way that looks he was forced out..He knows that a comment like this will force him out. That is why he said it and I read somewhere that he backed it up for a second time...Good by Mr.Trump.

When your campaign is based on bashing ("straight shooting" in the eyes of the Donald and his republican supporters on the far-right), practically everything you say could be interpreted by the non-insane as a pretext to be 'forced' out of the race.

but I don't know why he would think insulting McCain would be enough to get him ostracized by conservatives. Plus, as noted elsewhere, he doesn't seem to engage his brain before talking.

ETA: I'm thinking that this has sparked such attacks because his rival candidates desperately want him out of the race and they can't attack him on the other things he says since a) the base agrees with him, and b) so do they.

Its like when Hunter S. Thompson trashes the hotel room in Vegas: "Maybe I had planned it all along."
