(46,709 posts)I don't see how anyone could conclude that suicide was an option. If she was an activist she would have used that incarceration as another example of her position.
In fact, I'm more inclined to believe she was targeted by the police for intimidation. I mean, it's not like those kind of things don't happen. Telling the truth can subject you to a great deal of harassment tactics, especially from people who have the power to dispatch law enforcement agencies with just a phone call.

I also read sonewhere that Sheriff Glennn Smith is Governor Greg Abbott's cousin.

Now, we have found out that the Texas Sheriff and the prosecutor who have been charged with investigating this suspicious death have been accused of racism, in separate incidences.
Just last year the prosecutor was accused of sending threatening messages to an African American pastor. That pastor had criticized the prosecutor for bias in how he handled cases involving minorities.
Now, he is in charge of determining if any criminal charges will be filed in the strange death of Sandra Bland, an outspoken critic of police violence against African Americans.
......
But Mathis is not the only one involved in this investigation who has a history of clear-cut racial bias.
Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith was suspended back in 2007, from his former job in Hempstead, Texas. That termination came after he and four other Caucasian officers were found to have humiliated and mistreated a group of young African American men. The officers strip searched the young men, claiming they were looking for drugs
but that search didnt turn up anything at all. It was clear harassment.
In spite of this history (and perhaps because of it), Smith won election as sheriff in 2008.

(10,751 posts)...it would not surprise me to find out she was targeted.
Very very sad that she died the way she did. Sandra Bland was obviously a very intelligent and committed person. I hope the truth will come out.

(15,682 posts)DID NOT commit suicide. Not a chance. I'm furious - and a lot of other things. The world is a lesser place without her.
