When I moved into my own place I knew that I wanted to adopt a puppy. I had grown up in a houseful of dogs and missed having furry companions. After searching rescue sites, I found a cute Chihuahua mix that I made an appointment to go see. When I got there, I was not only greeted by Jake but by his sister Abby too. The shelter told me they had been abandoned on the side of a busy road in the middle of winter at not more than 2 months old. Luckily a Good Samaritan saw them and brought them to the shelter. Then I was told that they were neglected and caged for almost 24 hours a day by their first foster and had to be rescued from there too.
Even though I only intended to leave with one dog, I knew I couldn't seperate them. Jake and Abby were so bonded and had been through so much already in their short little lives that I adopted them both. It is easily the best decision I've ever made. Five years later they are still best friends and the loves of my life. They are so happy, friendly, playful, affectionate and spoiled. Every day I try to give them the love and happiness that they have given to me.

(15,100 posts)Except for now We lost our Annie a few months ago to cancer. It's just a little more food to feed and a little more **** to scoop, but it's double the love and double the fun. Good for her, taking in those puppies. And thanks OS for sharing this. Puppies help to balance out all the politics.

(15,480 posts)Either 2 cats who have become buds at the shelter, OR 2 kittens from the same litter. And it works out just delightfully. The exceptions are those single cats we rescue from the nearby woods. But there is nothing more fun than watching the boundless energy of a pair of 3 month old kittens. And I've noticed that as those kitten grow older, they keep their playful kitten ways with each other.

(1 post)I went to the RSPCA (I'm from the UK) and saw a gorgeous husky x Akita dog there, 9 months old who had been in the shelter since 2 weeks old and had never had a home before! He melted my heart with his sweet personality despite what he's been through and i adopted him. 6 weeks later I saw on the internet that his sister was available at another RSPCA rescue about 50 miles away and of course had to adopt her too! They had been in the same litter together and had shared a kennel before being separated. When they were reunited, his sister wee'd a little from excitement bless her and their tails wagged like crazy and they whimpered and cried.
Love my rescue dogs to pieces and they seem so content to be back together!
