My First Puppy Craigslist rescue by Danielle Angola, IN

My roommate had been telling me how awesome having a dog is for a long time, and I got to see it first hand when she got one of her own at our place. I had had fish and then hamsters and I decided that I was ready for a puppy. My roommate had found an ad on Craigslist for "puppies that needed to be gone today" and they were 4 months old. She sent me a picture and they were cute so I called the woman. I somehow managed to find time to drive to this house with a friend between school and work that day. When we arrived it was very scary. There was a horse in a pen in the front yard and the pen was big enough for maybe a large dog but not a horse. When we walked up to the door the lady practically threw this terrified puppy into my arms and dismissed us. The people in the house behind her were tattooing each other... I could not get that little puppy out of there fast enough.

When we got her home she trembled on the floor for four hours. We have now had Lilly for about 8 months and she has made great progress. She is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on shots. Her and my roommate's dog are inseparable and she is so sweet. She has some glitches that we are working with and hopefully through time she will not be so scared of everything and everyone who comes along. We are a happy little family and she has changed my life. My Lilly looks like a "pit bull mix" and so I have experienced first hand the prejudice to this breed and I have made it my mission to help change the image. My roommate brought me into the dog world, but my puppy is never going to let me out!

Indiana is overwhelmed with unwanted dogs because of these assholes.

A shelter near me in Central Indian has taken in 130 dogs THIS MONTH and are now 200 over their holding capacity.
So guess what happens to those dogs?

I fucking hate it.
