My late night Fantasy: President Obama at Bill Cosby’s door

Limo waiting - the sun is shining. The house is large and sumptuous.
Secret Service with sunglasses attending. He steps up to do the knock.

As he is let in his outstretched hand is at eye level and he says
I came to pick up the medal of freedom you were given
before we knew how undeserving you are.

'cause even though there is no precedent
there is a first time for everything
which pretty much exactly goes for what you did
when you disgraced
yourself and
destroyed the world's admiration you basked in

I cannot live with myself if
doing my job means to allow you to keep the treasure of the Medal of Freedom
when I know you stole freedom from untold women
many of whom never again regained their previous
peace of mind.

Hand it over
I'm powerful enough
to make this executive decision right here and right now.

Thank you.
(this is what he says after he has it in that outstretched hand, because he is a classy no drama man of exquisite breeding)

... and it's a good one. And I'm sure it's one that many, many people share.

The thing is that what Mr. Cosby now possesses is a hunk of metal with a red-white-&-blue ribbon, only worth its melt-down value.

What stands - or once stood - behind that award is what gives it meaning: the respect of the citizenry, the admiration of the populace, and the honour of having been recognized for outstanding contributions towards the betterment of the country.

Those sentiments are no longer attached to Mr. Cosby's medal. Ergo, his receipt of the award has been rendered meaningless, whether it is publicly rescinded or not.

I know that prison time for his crimes is no longer a possibility. But I believe that for someone like him, knowing that despite the many admirable accomplishments in his life, he will now forever be remembered as "that guy who drugged and raped women", is a far greater punishment. And the knowledge that he himself ruined his own once-brilliant legacy will haunt him the rest of his days.

He may not die in a jail cell, but he will die a broken man - and broken by his own hand. Of that I am sure.

he is already living as a broken man with the knowledge that not even death can save him from his self destruction which he schlepps like a heavy blanket around his shoulders.
I'm quite sure of that.

In my heart of hearts I fully know that his getting to keep it does not negatively reflect on the other recipients. Yet I want it to be taken away from him to signify he is not in their league, and, stubbornly, I think for a man with the power of POTUS "there is no precedent" is not a reason to not act.
