Did the jail fail to give Sandra Bland her needed epilepsy med, Keppra? Jailed people in TX are not guaranteed
their own prescription medications.
She supposedly refused a medical check before she was put in jail. Does that mean she had no medication in the three days she was there? Keppra must be gradually stopped; it's not supposed to be suddenly discontinued. Doing so can result in increased seizures or suicidal thoughts.

County jail inmates in Texas have no guarantee they will be given medications prescribed by their own doctors, the state agency that oversees jails said Monday. Instead, they will receive prescriptions chosen by the government's physician.
"That's absolutely correct, as long as that (county) physician is comfortable that medication is is what that particular patient needs," said Adan Munoz, executive director of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, which oversees Texas' 245 county jails.

To comply with the privacy act, an inmate must fill out a form that is then sent by facsimile to a doctor or pharmacy.
"And you get hamstrung, too, if it's on a weekend or on a holiday," Browne said.
