I think I've figured out Donald Trump's plan...

...it's built on three key elements:

1. Trump's goal is self-promotion, so staying in the public eye as long as possible
2. Trump is smart enough to know he won't get enough votes to win
3. Trump takes everything personally

FIRST: Trump stays in the Republican Primary race through 2015, with emphasis on the Debates. This gives him a national platform. He attacks his opponents personally, and they respond join kind, leading to more personal attacks.

SECOND: At the end of the year, before anyone gets to vote for or against him, he drops out of the Republican race, saying the RNC and the Republican candidates has tried to block his campaign message. He says the Republicans are a bunch of "losers" who can't win, and announces that he plans to run as an Independent. This avoids running afoul of any "sore loser" campaign laws.

THIRD: While the Republicans can finally campaign against each other, Trump creates an Independent campaign and continues to primarily attack the Republicans. If he's lucky, he attacks the same share of the Republican base, which give him enough votes to make it in to the Fall debates.

FOURTH: The Democrats win the Election, Trump comes in third, and says the Republicans nominated another worthless candidate who couldn't win.

2. Maybe he knows from history that his real estate will make more money with a Democrat in office

That is certainly true over the past 15 years, right? He can't actually be a democrat, but he can have an influence and get a lot of attention doing it.

He'll get around to step 2 one of these days....

Seriously, I can't see how this run really benefits anything but his ego but then I never understood the celebrity culture to begin with.

up to and including point #1 and #2. He is all about self promotion and in the words of a co-worker he has been around WWE for a bit too long.

It is like watching a really good fight in high school you want to watch but feel guilty doing so. On second thought any time Republicans want to gut each other in public is fine with me.

He truly believes his idiocy. Only way he bows out is if he loses the first voting states, then he points to the political establishment. He might then run a fake ghost run (since many states have sore lost laws) which will have minimal impact on the race unless he makes a successful challenge.

Odds are he might actually win the nomination, the republicans are handling him poorly. Though you know they are probably setting him up to lose in Iowa.

I hope that he stays in for a while. He is appealing to an unsavory portion of the GOP base and that segment may stay loyal to him

As near as I can tell, he's an idiot.

The only thing that's kept him alive is that his bankers are dumber than he is and lent him so much that that they have to keep him afloat.

He overpaid for the Plaza and the rest of Central Park South, with the only thing saving him being the unexpected rise in rental and co-op prices, if that really saved him more than bank refinancing. For a long time the only profitable property he owned was the hotel without his name on it-- because he owned less than 50% and he couldn't fuck it up. Over the years, and through several bankruptcies, the bankers took control away from him and he has 5% or so of most properties. That's for name rights and eventually, his name will be worth nothing and he'll lose what little he has. He'll never be on food stamps, but billionaire never really applied to him, and will apply less as time goes on.

He thinks he can win. Trump will be getting a rude awakening! He will take a lot of damage to his ego.

than Repube Presidents.

So of course he's turning the Repube voting machine into the joke that it is....they did that themselves in 2008 with Palin, now he's doubling down and out-Palining Palin in the ridiculous narcissistic media contest.

More power to him, this is great for the Dems and I'm enjoying the show.

15. He could get a "go away" deal
Thu Jul 23, 2015, 10:12 AM
Jul 2015

He has a lot of leverage for that right now. Prebus Reibus or whoever is in charge of clearing the path for Bush III will make the deal with Trump.

Simulatneously Trump could get something from the Dems to go 3rd party.

To be clear if such a deal is made it won;t be for money directly but rather for a government construction contract or some kind of favor that will be less obvious.
