Confederate flags put NASCAR in difficult position

... Florida State University professor Josh Newman, co-author of “Sport, Spectacle and NASCAR Nation,” said he was surprised by NASCAR’s announcement.

“I believe this was the most significant step toward inclusivity NASCAR officials have taken in decades,” Newman said.

Although NASCAR has for years banned the flag from cars and officially sanctioned merchandise, Newman said the public request “strikes at the heart” of two core values fans have held for decades.

One is a free-wheeling, libertarian spirit. The other is “neo-Confederate” identity as part of the fan experience ...

1. Fuck it let them have go fast turn left. Formula 1 to me is much better racing and way more diverse.

Each type of race has its own unique appeal to me. Moto GP, or TT are my personal favorites.

Rally racing is quite exciting as well. But, I just love watching the bikes.

And they're both gearheads and amateur racers themselves.

I don't see a huge outpouring of diverse interest coming out of this.

I was there all day and only saw one patron with the flag symbol
But that's hot rods
