Her husband and kids made the decision to put her in the place she loved so much - her garden. She was an avid gardener and spent some of her happiest hours tending to her plants. When she was visiting with me, she would give me the best advice on what to plant and where to plant it, and was always ready to share cuttings and starts from her own garden. She was also a very spiritual individual, and scattered throughout her gardens were lovely messages, carved in stone, about how being with nature was like being close to God. We all selected an area to put some of her ashes, and this was the spot I chose. Now, when ever I am at the house, I know where I can go to sit and remember her.

(26,298 posts)We shed a few tears, but there is a new baby on the way, so now I have to concentrate on filling some mighty big shoes, in my upcoming job as 'Auntie-Granny'.

(1,587 posts)My condolences to her family and friends, I wish you peace.
I plan to be cremated and my ashes scattered on my property (well, it will be mine by then, hopefully). I've spent the last few years working on food-producing plants, but I want to plant flowers and nice shrubs and things starting next year.

(26,298 posts)My older brother died in 1976. Now it's just me and my younger brother, as my mother died 3 weeks after my sister. It's been a rough year, but we are all pulling together and lean on each other.

(2,116 posts)Impotant also to have marker somewhere. My family found this out belatedly. My father has one now. My mother too. It is surprisingly important.

(26,298 posts)Maybe something on one of her benches. She loved having sitting places in her gardens.

(19,568 posts)I hope my family knows me enough to pick such a perfect spot to lay me to rest. It would be perfect to me. My gardens are also spiritual in many ways, at least to me. My garden designs, plants and statues are a testament to my lifetime. I lovingly picked where each one would live. What they would represent to me. Then I tend them with my heart. I understand your sister, even though I never knew her. You, her loved ones, did the right thing. You made her happy with your tribute to who she was I think.
I'm so very sorry you lost your sister. My heart and thoughts are with all of you right now.

(1,301 posts)And I don't know if you've ever heard of Edgar Cayce, but I had this read at my fiance's memorial service 23 years ago:
"For, as has been given, it is not all of life to live, nor yet all of death to die. For life and death are one, and only those who will consider the experience as one may come to understand or comprehend what peace indeed means. #?EdgarCayce reading 1977-1"
