And this year we have the continuing "warm blob" in the Pacific in addition.
Water's roasting and so are we.

3. The problem with this El Nino is that it is not just a streak of hot ocean like in 1997.

It is the whole Pacific. So we don't have the storm conveyor belt created by the hot streak surrounded by cold water like in 1997. There is no cold water now. So, we don't have storms lining up to quench our drought-parched coast. It really is awful.

8. Exactly. That warm blob is a nasty beast.

We had an all too brief break from the heat in Seattle and now we're back on the hot plate.

And the salmon are suffering, too.

Here's a good article from a local weather forecaster about the blob:

Have you been getting any rain down there?

9. Actually, we had an usually wet (for CA standards) July because of monsoonal storms from the south.

It feels like Florida around here. Of course, it was not nearly enough rain to make a significant difference. But it was enough to make it miserably muggy.

I've been picking up references to the heat in stories about people blocking the Shell icebreaker. Now I see on Weather Underground that it's expected to be 102 there today, 100 tomorrow, and then three more days in the 90s.

More like 99 to 100 now.

This link has the number of 90 degree days so far in Portland up too Tuesday.

http://www.katu.com/news/local/Record-setting-summer-Western-Oregon-back-under-heat-advisory-318832661.html

Average 90 degree days: 13
Record number of 90 degree days: 24 (2009)
2015 so far: 18 (20 with yesterday and today)

We still have August and September to get through. Ugh. I hate the heat.

in the 90's and the humidity is also in the 90% area. You can barely breathe. I am uncomfortable when it gets above 75, I kind of hope I kick off before Global Warming really starts getting bad.

I'm in my 50s, thank goodness. I can't imagine being around still in 30 yrs. I really hope I'm not. I too cannot handle the heat well. It makes me sick. I always thought I'd end up in Seattle or Portland, but it's cooler in L.A. this summer.

But we've had a cooler than normal summer here so far. Only 3 days of 100° so far.
Not like 2011 when we had 92 days of 100+°

get that hot up there that often during the summer. I would've expected their summers to be cool since it's further north and is somewhat close to the Pacific Ocean.

Even Portland will be 103 which is ridiculously warm. I will be there next summer and hope it won't be that hot.
