What was the name of the island in the Indian ocean where the fishermen said they saw 370?
Where is Reunion Island in relation to Diego Garcia?

(12,723 posts)I think it was an island in the Maldives that reported a sighting and that is even further north.

(56,582 posts)There were also claims of sightings in the Maldives
Reunion is 1500 miles from Diego Garcia, or roughly the distance from New York, NY, to Dallas, TX.
Diego Garcia is marked as "British Indian Ocean Territories" there.

(3,414 posts)flying low and slow over Kudahuvadhoo in the Maldives at approximately 6 am local time, the next morning after the jet took off at Kuala Lumpur. He said that sighting was very unusual, as there are no airports nearby that can handle a plane that size.
In fact, the closest airport that can handle a plane that big is at Diego Garcia. Use google earth to take a look.

(55,445 posts)those fishermen AFAIK had only claimed to see "a big jet" or something similar...
And it is noteworthy that none of those fishermen have been named in any of those "news" stories, iirc...
