Waynesville Man Cancels Walk, Claims Discrimination Forced Him to Stop

HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. -- A Waynesville man who said he was going to walk the Confederate battle flag to Washington D.C. has canceled his plans.

Toby Hatfield says he was getting too many negative responses, which is why he decided to end his walk. He started his journey on July 14 hoping to carry the message that the flag represents heritage, not hate ...

But Hatfield says he encountered resistance as he resumed walking.

"My landlord saying he was going to throw my stuff out kick me out. That was my biggest issue is why I had to come back," Hatfield said. "I mean I was I was like just getting so much discrimination. I couldn't go in restaurants and even eat from getting kicked out" ...
