Suspect kicks deputy, hits K-9 with rock after traffic stop

http://www.kpho.com/story/29681821/suspect-kicks-deputy-hits-k-9-with-rock-during-traffic-stop

MOHAVE COUNTY, AZ (KPHO/KTVK) - A 50-year-old Missouri man kicked a sheriff's deputy and hit his K-9 partner with a rock after a traffic stop Thursday afternoon, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.
.....

Deputies stopped the van and contacted the driver, identified as Carl Eaves. They discovered that the van was stolen and attempted to take Eaves into custody, but he resisted and a struggle ensued.
.....

The deputy released his K-9 partner, Ecko, to apprehend the suspect. Carter said Eaves struck Ecko in the head with a rock multiple times, cutting the dog's head open.
.....

Eaves faces charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, escape, animal cruelty, theft of means of transportation, reckless driving, DUI and providing alcohol to a minor.

Do you have to look at the link to see this isn't a PoC? Good thing he didn't forget to signal a lane change, have a missing license plate, or be near a college.

White privilege means not having to die for a mistake or even blatant, dangerous behavior.

(I think military dogs are different, but since I have not seen their training, I can't speak to that.) The police dogs that I have seen being trained have grabbed and held, usually an arm less often a leg. Dogs jaws can close with tremendous force.... From February 3, 2008 · 10:37 pm
"National Geographic’s Dr. Brady Barr’s Bite Pressure Tests. Dr. Barr measured bite forces of many different creatures. Domestic dogs were included in the test. Domestic dogs: 320 LBS of pressure on avg. A German Shepherd Dog...tested using a bite sleeve equipped with a specialized computer instrument."
The point for me is even while the suspect was hitting the dog in the head with a rock in an effort to break the dogs' hold, the dog held on and did not bite down hard enough to truly deeply injure the suspect. Full pressure bite could have shattered the bones. That dog had very very good training.

"Police dog bite victims were usually bitten multiple times, whilst domestic bite victims were not. Police dog bite victims were bitten more often in the head, neck, chest and flank. They were hospitalised more often, underwent more operations and had more invasive diagnostic tests."

"We observed higher hospital admission rates (42% versus 7%) and higher multiple bite rates (73% versus 16%) in police dogs. Police dog bite victims’ operative rates were nearly twice as high as domestic dogs (4.0% versus 2.3%). There were 24 operations performed for the 595 police dog bite victims, including 5 arterial repairs, 4 open joint repairs, 1 tendon repair, 1 nasolacrimal duct repair, 2 split thickness skin grafts, and 11 incision and debridements. There were 27 operations performed for the 1109 domestic dog bite victims, including 3 arterial repairs, 4 split thickness skin grafts, 2 eyelid and nasolacrimal duct repairs, 1 neck exploration, 1 operating room failed resuscitation, and 16 incision and debridements."

But it did make me do a little googling on the subject. I had a friend who had all of the flesh and muscle torn down to the bone on his elbow by a police dog. So, your post made me decide to look it up.
