http://time.com/3981032/cecil-lion-bill-trophy-hunters/U.S. lawmakers joined the chorus of outrage over the killing of Cecil the lion on Friday, announcing a bill that would stop people from importing trophies gleaned from hunting potentially endangered animals.
The bill, Conserving Ecosystems by Ceasing the Importation of Large (CECIL) Animal Trophies Act, would make it illegal for trophy hunters to bring back parts of any species proposed or listed as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act of 1973.
Lets not be cowardly lions when it comes to trophy killings, Senator Bob Menendez said in a public statement, adding that the legislation is a necessary and prudent step that creates a disincentive for these senseless trophy killings and advances our commitment in leading the fight to combat global wildlife trafficking.
The bill is co-sponsored by Senators Cory Booker, Richard Blumenthal and Ben Cardin.

I want lengthy jail time, and in a prison that's good and stinky.

(7,365 posts)3. Will it get broad, bi partisan support?
With even Safari Club suspending DDS Palmer's membership, the time may be now to get some Republicans on board and get this bill through. But the big money runs deep.
I applaud this bill and how. But we are JUST getting around to banning "Crush Videos" NOW (which to his credit, one of my Senators Pat Toomey is co-sponsoring)....and organizations like the NRA and Safari Club will oppose any "animal friendly" bill. They always have.

(21,718 posts)4. I support the intent, but the "crime" is not in this country
Wish we could do it. What we should support in this case is allowing extradition.
has NOTHING to do with the crime committed. However, the bill will probably foster in fewer cases of such slaughter-fests because the reason these rich western assholes go to kill shit is to bring it back and yuk yuk over their "great conquest". If you can't bring it back and hang on the wall, then no trophy.
