If you are an employee at Planned Parenthood it may be wise to invest in helmet and flak jacket. We are at a time when the situation could become more incendiary. When the RW demands even a government shut down over defunding Planned Parenthood what will they do if the organization is NOT defunded. There is a lot of hot anger coming from the right on this matter.
It appears that the RW is now on a virtual war footing over reproductive rights. They will accept nothing but a complete shutdown of Planned Parenthood based on the mood of their constituents. They are making it clear that they intend to stop women pursuing their reproductive rights. by any means necessary. When a GOP candidate says he will use the military or FBI on this issue we have crossed the Rubicon in some way. And his rhetoric encourages the most extreme elements of anti reproductive rights activists. Hacking computer systems and putting out the names and addresses of Planned Parenthood employees and like organizations puts these people in a clear and present danger.
Even though the videos were severely edited and virtually completely untrue the facts do not matter. As the campaign of 2016 continues we can expect more and more vitriolic rhetoric from the anti choicers. In the end the goal is to remove all reproductive health care for women. And in particular poorer women are targets.
The question is how are we going to rebuff these extremists?

It has been a bloody war (and I mean bloody) for at least 30 years. The war has its ebbs and flows, but it never ceases. No one in Law or Government is willing to call it what it is: domestic terrorism against women via women's health care access.
It's not recent. Only the current means is new.

(1,232 posts)as usual. They'll stop at nothing....
I think that we can look forward to a big statement from the Obama administration and Mrs. Clinton in the coming weeks. Mrs. Clinton would be extremely wise to take a huge stand on this with backing from the President. It would win her the votes of every sane female voter in the USA.
I'd love to see what trumpie and Jeb! come up with. They'll remain silent however, which could well be their undoing.

(4,309 posts)I am now very pro-choice.
We stay rational, reasonable and committed. We have science and medical research on our side.
It is the most personal, private and important decision a woman may ever make in her life. It should be between her health care providers and her herself. Everyone else should stay out of it.
If a woman has no control of her own body, what freedom does she really have? None,
Outlawing abortions won't end abortions, they will just make them dangerous and unsafe.
Pro-lifers tend to care for the fetus until it comes to term, then mom is on her own.

(23,946 posts)Has America become totally unable to separate political propaganda from truth or has it just given up and decided to simply equate the truth and lies. It is hard work sometimes to expose lies, much easier to believe the lies than see the truth?
A lie travels half way around the world before truth gets it's pants on...what an excellent saying.........lot of lazy and not paying attention folks would rather just keep the pants off and go back to sleep than go chasing lies.

(12,151 posts)We've let all the mythmaking go on and on and on. First we respected their "thinking" about late-term, life-saving procedures being "partial birth." Then inching back the timeline, again and again, then pseudo-science about fetal pain. Counseling, ultrasounds, waiting periods. Now it's O'Keefe style fake videos about "selling baby parts."
We were never talking to thoughtful, reasoning people to with. Once we accepted that there might be some times when a private medical procedure could be "murder," we gave free rein to the absolute suspension of reality we see before us. They're already stalking and killing people armed with their dishonest rationale. It's already possible to be elected to national public office on a "no exceptions" platform. It's really only a small stretch to now claim that embryonic tissue needed for critical research is akin to selling corpses.
Maybe next all pregnant women will be collared and tracked, so they can be punished criminally for eating the wrong cereal or taking too many aspirin. There really is no limit once you give crazy people the right to dictate other people's lives and health.

(24,438 posts)Let it be the (political) battlefield they choose to die on. Democrats will very likely block it in the Senate and in the odd event that it goes to President Obama, it will be vetoed and if it leads to a government shutdown there is little doubt in my mind that the Republicans will be the ones whom are viewed as being in the wrong here. How do we rebuff them? I have no idea. The majority of public opinion is on our side. The Republicans want to fight for the side of the extremists? Not anything we can really do about it. There are likely right-wing anti-choicers whom believe that PP not only sells "baby parts" but also eats them as well. There is no rational discourse from such people. We just have to ensure that people who provide services are adequately protected from the extremists, a not too easy task given that courts have weakened protection zones around clinics
