In 2005, Chuck Schumer claimed a vote against John Bolton was a vote against Israel

This is the 2nd time I know of that Schumer has publicly crossed the line when it came to zealously blaming his own government and colleagues in delicate matters of US-Israel-Palestine policy.

During the third of three major efforts of the George W. Bush administration to get the recess appointed US Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton confirmed in the US Senate, Senator Schumer launched a passionate personal campaign to help Bolton succeed.

Schumer called many Democratic Senate colleagues and bluntly said, “A vote against John Bolton is a vote against Israel.”

Senator Christopher Dodd finally challenged Schumer’s advocacy for Bolton and this statement in a meeting of the weekly Democratic Senate Caucus at the time — and put an end to Schumer’s campaign.

What Schumer was distorting was that every administration, Republican and Democrat, had in the past been a good friend of Israel. Bolton represented the face of Jesse Helms-inspired pugnacious American nationalism largely disdainful of international institutions and engagement, and it was well within the latitude of the United States Senate to reject Bolton, or in this case filibuster him, on numerous grounds without having the Israel card pulled.

He does not believe in diplomacy. He supports a John Bolton style of foreign policy, in the most literal sense possible. To the point he was willing to engage in gutter attacks against other Democrats in order to help push the Bush/Cheney/Bolton agenda.

So, yeah, his vote against Obama's nuclear deal was always guaranteed. He's an enemy of peace and diplomacy.

New York. Or anywhere else in the US, for that matter. Defending Israel is fine, but at the expense of US interests?

Ya wanna know how many mornings I wake up wishing he was a Republican so we could run someone against him?

(Cuomo, too. Two scumbags for the price of one.)

He's not just any old Republican - he's one the most pro-war Americans there is. It doesn't even matter to him too much who the ar is with. I mean, for fuck's sake, he screwed Republicans if it meant an increased chance of war:

A vote on the nomination of John Bolton to serve as President Bush"s ambassador to the United Nations is scheduled for today. The New York Times reports the top Democrat on the Committee — Joseph Biden of Delaware —–is planning to ask the vote be delayed. A series of new allegations of Bolton abusing his power at the State Department have emerged since the committee last met. Much of the two-days of hearings last week focused on allegations that Bolton threatened intelligence analysts who disagreed with him and sought to have them removed after they challenged his claims about security threats posed by various countries. Since then, reports have emerged that — during his time at the State Department — Bolton often blocked then-Secretary of State Colin Powell and, on one occasion, his successor, Condoleezza Rice, from receiving information vital to U.S. strategies on Iran. Powell was not among a group of five Republican former secretaries of state who sent the committee a letter that endorsed Bolton"s nomination. On Monday, Powell’s former chief of staff Lawrence Wilkerson spoke out in opposition to Bolton. He told the New York Times "He is incapable of listening to people and taking into account their views. He would be an abysmal ambassador."
