(10,650 posts)It's Texas, where judges are elected and virtually all the appeals court and all of the supreme court justices are republican operatives. Paxton may be convicted, Tom Delay was. But Delay was tried in Travis County, which is slightly more liberal. Paxton will be tried in his county of residence which is ultra republican.
But, like Delay, Paxton won't spend a day in jail. The appeals court and the state supreme court will find a way to give him a pass even if he is convicted by a jury. It's not a conspiracy, though. In Texas it is business as usual.

(24,780 posts)The Feds haven't completed their investigation. And this issue was dead when he paid a $5,000 slap on the wrist fine before the election. But the Feds started investigating when the company itself was investigated for fraud then this was revived in Texas.

Did not know that - heard that Perry was the first. Thanks - I learn something new every day.
