Protesters Arrested at Federal Courthouse in Downtown St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Police arrested 56 demonstrators attempting to enter the federal courthouse in downtown St. Louis as part of a day of civil disobedience marking one year since Michael Brown’s death.

Those arrested were part of a larger group of some 200 protesters who blocked traffic as they marched through the heart of downtown chanting, “Black lives matter,” and, “The whole world’s watching.”

Many of those arrested are clergy, and the tone of the arrests – on both sides- was measured.

Police told the crowd to disperse, and when they didn’t, the group that had hopped over a perimeter fence to approach the entrance to the Thomas Eagleton Federal Courthouse were arrested without resistance or rough handling by police.
