Kasich Was for the Iraq War Before He Was Against It

Gov. John Kasich told CNN he never would have taken the United States to war in Iraq.

Said Kasich: “I would never have committed ourselves to Iraq.”

But in November 2002, Kasich, then a former congressman, made a very different argument: “We should go to war with Iraq. It’s not likely that (Saddam) Hussein will give up his weapons. If he did he would be disgraced in the Arab world.”

At the core, this guy is as evil as any/every other Republican choice. The scary thing about him is his ability to hide it in a way that the average bear on the street thinks "he's an ok guy - I could have a beer with him". Yeah - that got us Shrub.

I'm hoping that as his numbers rise, more and more of these incongruities begin to surface. My sense is that he's been, for the most part, very careful in managing his public statements for a long time to maximize his flexibility in a presidential run. He has always played the long game.
