On the morning of this past Monday, at 8:30 a.m., my mother found my father on the floor of the bedroom, barely responsive. She called 911 and they went to the emergency room. I visited my father and he wasn’t fully responsive. The hospital is suspecting that it may be due to his prescription, because there is no sign of neurological disorder. Yet I feel that this is the end-result of holding in the pain of racism and torture by white Christians in Idaho for more than 70 years since he was eight years old as a Japanese American during WWII…It is literally killing him.

It was hard to see my dad this way, but it’s more of a reason why I need the support from everyone so that the coauthors and I can get the book published. What my father and many Japanese Americans held in for all those years because our culture dictates that we must endure, I am breaking that goddamn wall and saying no more! Why? Because the longer we hold our true emotions in, the worse the pain and anger tears us up physically, emotionally and mentally.

I may lose a father because the torture he experienced as a child, but I want to make sure that no one else goes through the crap my family went through and end up sick.

Racism may have sickened my father’s generation but my generation is trying to end this for everyone…and not just PoC.
