Weed Out Police Corruption and Unburden the Tax Payer

Nationwide Mandatory LEO Liability Insurance

Each LEO should have to purchase his or her own single-payer liability insurance. Just like with car accident insurance, any excessive payouts would make their insurance rate increase to the point where they are not able to afford it. No insurance, no job.

Don't certain jobs require that the individual be "bondable"? This should be like that--and let the individuals pay for their own fuck-ups.

Insurance is just another level of separation between corrupt cops and reasonable punishment for their crimes. Your plan is just making cops who arn't criminals pay for criminals in other cities.

Punishing LEO's for their crimes does not relieve the tax payer from having to pay for civil lawsuits. If a LEO has done nothing wrong, there is no reason for his liability insurance rate to increase. Individual rates would increase with wrongdoing to the point of being unaffordable.

EXCLUSIVE: Detective is NYPD's most-sued cop, with 28 lawsuits filed against him since 2006

The number of claims against the department doubled over the past decade to a record high of 9,570 filed in 2012. A Daily News review of lawsuits reveals that 55 officers in the 34,000-person department have been sued 10 or more times during that time period. Read the suits and see the settlements of NYPD's 12 most sued with our interactive graphic.

Everyone on the NYPD most sued list would have been fired and possibly imprisoned for their first offense.

How about instead of insurance, we just make officers personally liable for lawsuits that result from their illegal actions?
