have I seen this in a POTUS before. But then why should I have? This photo will be saved forever as a once in a lifetime event. Never to happen again, unless we get another POTUS of color or maybe....a woman.

can share amazing stories of triumph and tragedy; but, for me ... to see, over time, the light come on for a young Man of Color, it is all worth it!

The false stereotype that the vast majority of blacks are looting street thugs? This picture is more the norm than the exception.

pictures don't keep them alive. Here's a picture of Trayvon Martin at Space camp:

Two and a half years later he was dead and being portrayed as a thug. Why pretend that the stereotype isn't the "norm" when it comes to portraying young black men? Of course it is.

What is it about us as americans that allows us to imagine all black people are gangsters, thieves, or worse?

I think we deserve to pull our head out of hollywoods ass and stop depending on corporate media to provide "both sides of the story".

Do you want to see pictures of three year olds riding big whees up and down a street full of abandoned or burned out houses!? Is that what you need in order to understand??

I think there is a basic lack of understanding about what 'poverty' is, how it operates, and what pressures it forces upon those suffering it.

I had strong feelings about the case before i knew he had an opportunity to go to space camp- and i didnt recognize him in that picture until i read the caption, and more importantly- it doesnt matter.

unless you are saying only future astronauts are safe from the absurd violence and profiling from police you are missing 90% of the picture, and we will continue to see innocent ( remember in JUSTICE we are innocent until proven guilty) people who never had a chance to speak their piece.

That is abominable. That is terrifying. That is where this country is at- and i dont need a picture or a news story to inform me, because i try to understand whats going on.

tickled pink to see a TV documentary with young lads of African extraction in suits, looking studious and professional, instead of wearing a baseball cap back-to-front, and and so on.

I also like to see AAs wearing dreadlocks! Every nationality is a great mix of all types, so it's wrong to push a stereo-type.

IMO to help perpetuate a stereotype for white folks that any PoC with the focus being young Black men who attend collage or achieve success in their lives do so because they escaped the ghetto life and in fact were themselves part of that life and that the White justice system might just be what they need, when in fact many PoC including young Black men come from working and middle class hpouseholds and were never part of ''the life' themselves
