Finally, Jim Newell over at Salon asks THE question that's been on lots of minds lately:
All of which raises some questions about what, exactly, the GOP establishment and the many, many wealthy donors who have donated to Bush see in him, expect from him. Or as the New York Times Nate Cohn puts it:
I want to read the case, if there is one, for the GOP establishment to support Bush if he has bad favs and bad h2h numbers

Yes, what DO they envision for themselves in Jeb Bush?
This is the mother of all battles between The Establishment and America's soul.
Donald Trump is not part of The Establishment. All of the other GOP candidates are.
He has thrown a grenade into the decades-long, corrosive network of control by Wall Street, DC lobbyists, powerbrokers, the Chamber of Commerce and corrupted politicians on the Hill, who have bankrupted our democracy, stolen from the people and are hell bent on retaining permanent, ultimate power over us and the world. (See the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) in particular.)
The Establishment will do anything to force their candidate into ultimate power, to solidify all of their plutocratic interests for many years to come. Jeb Bush is the head of the battering ram.
Donald Trump is the only candidate standing between Jeb Bush, who IS the Establishment's Candidate, and the GOP nomination.
Regardless of all the rhetorical turmoil we are witnessing, we must never lose sight of that fact.

George W. Bushs First Pro-Jeb E-mail Is Surprisingly Unenthusiastic, Vanity Fair, August 20, 2015
And this is just sad.

Never thought we'd see Jeb Bush scrambling under a 'fundraising disadvantage'. This is hitting critical mass.

The e-mail, addressed to a friend and paid for by Jebs campaign, is lackluster in its praise for Jeb. The elder brother writes that Jeb would be a tremendous president, and notes that Jeb took on tough challenges as Floridas governor and delivered results. There are zero specific mentions of any of Jebs accomplishments.
I rarely send e-mails like this, the former president wrote, sounding a bit like your uncle who is asking you to purchase gift wrap from your cousins school fund-raiser.
The full e-mail is available below.

Dear Friend -
Thanks for taking the time to read my note. I rarely send emails like this, but I wanted to make sure I asked for your support on behalf of my brother, Jeb.
This is a consequential time in our nations history, and we need a strong leader.
Jeb took on tough challenges as Floridas Governor and delivered results. I know he will do the same as President.
Thats why Im asking you to stand behind him with a gift of $100, $50, or $25.
My brother will be a tremendous President. He is a proven leader with an optimistic outlook and a clear, conservative agenda for Americas future.
Hes got a tough road ahead -- take it from someone who's been there. With his strengths and your support, he will succeed. But he needs you, Friend: Jeb2016.com/Endorse
Laura and I appreciate your consideration and send our best wishes.
Sincerely,
George W. Bush
And this is just sad.
HOUSTON -- Republican Presidential candidate Jeb Bush is turning to his famous brother and father to raise some big bucks in Texas in October.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the former Florida governor will be holding a major-donor conference called the "Jeb Celebration" on October 25 and 26 in Houston. The event will feature both former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.
If you're hoping to score an invitation to the exclusive event, be ready to raise a lot of money. According to the WSJ, donors will have to raise at least $50,000 by the end of September to get an invite and if you want a picture with the former presidents you have to raise at least $100,000.
.....
So far in his campaign, Jeb has not actively used his George W. and his father for major pushes to help his campaign. However, with Donald Trump surging in GOP polls across the country; Bush is going to need help to overcome Trump's fundraising advantage.
