Man sentenced to serve life in prison without parole for marijuana will soon be free.

Dan Viets, the attorney for Jeff Mizanskey, announced Thursday afternoon that his client is to be released from prison on Sept. 1.

Mizanskey has served more than 21 years for nonviolent marijuana offenses.

In May, Gov. Jay Nixon granted Mizanskey a commutation of his sentence.

A Missouri Board of Probation and Parole at the Jefferson City Corrections Center held his first hearing on Aug. 6.

Four days later, Mizanskey and his attorney were informed that he would released.

His record should be sealed too, so he can get a job. And he should get big money for his time imprisoned and a friggen big apology.

I can think of 3 or 4 off the top of my head that would make sense.

but the amount of individuals, particularly black men, serving time for non-violent crime is abhorrent, we need more of this, now.

Barring some miracle he won't work ever again.

I hope he can do more with his freedom than die in poverty.
