RENO (AP) The Burning Man site is swarming not with the thousands of guests expected to attend the annual event, but bugs.
The Reno Gazette Journal reports state officials are working to identify the coin-shaped green pests that are biting workers who are setting up the site.
More than 70,000 people are expected to attend Burning Man from Aug. 30 to Sept. 7.
Nevada Department of Agriculture state entomologist Jeff Knight says the bugs aren't bloodsuckers and do not seem to pose a health risk. He said these types of infestations usually only last a couple of weeks, and recent rains and bright lights used at night could be attracting the flying nibblers.

They're quite the pest on agricultural crops, especially cotton and tomatoes. They can bite, and the bites are pretty painful. They have needle-like mouth parts.
At the Burning Man site, there's nothing for them to eat or places for adults to lay eggs, so they'll probably be gone from the area before the event.

I've always heard them called Green Stink Bugs and they're fairly common in the summer. I've never had one bite me, but they're love chomping on garden plants, particularly the tomatoes, and occasionally one will get into the house to be tormented to death by the kitties.
