Why was federal funding cut from ACORN almost immediately when it was obvious that the video was edited. That was in 2009 when Democrats controlled both houses.

The only way to deal with crawling shits like this is to sue them into penury and out of existence, as the women who lost her son to a Klan attack did some time back. She won every nickel they had.

What is worse is that this happened over fifteen years ago, ending up with a congressional circus type hearing and a FBI investigation. People have forgotten. And it started out the with a sleazy pro-life group called Life Dynamic. They did the same type of distorted undercover videos to claim Planned Parenthood in Kansas along with two bio labs were conducting illegal abortions to SELL fetal tissue/organs. Like the Holly O'Donnell/Stem Express tape interviews, LD had tapes of a man named Dean Alberty who worked for a bio-med company called Anatomical Gift Foundation and they procured tissues samples working at a Kansas PP clinic. He attested to witnessing as sorts of gruesome ILLEGAL abortions performed for the purpose of selling the tissue. Turns out that he was getting paid by Life Dynamic for two years to spy on AGF and PP. Near the end of 1999, 20/20 produced a segment claiming to expose fetal tissue sales using Life Dynamic input. The whole thing culminated into a congressional hearing in typical GOP vs Dem push/shove debate. Witnesses were called or subpoenaed. Some didn't show, but Dean Alberty did and his lack of credibility was exposed. But due to the LD videos and 20/20, congress urged the FBI to conduct an investigation into the allegations of illegal abortion procedures and SALES of fetal tissue. The Kansas Bureau did a lengthy and thoroughly investigation and found no evidence of a crime or violations of the law. The labs and PP were exonerated. If you google and research this topic, PP is constantly harassed with investigations in red states. And google partial birth abortions and you will see links to hundreds of videos alleging to PP abortions crimes. Dozens of pro-life web sites/videos present witnesses to all sorts of gruesome allegations. They are great for raising money, but somehow, these people never go to the authorities with these allegations. Take Dean Alberty for instance. Kansas is probably the leading state trying to shut down PP. If Alberty had taken his claims to the authorities there, they would have launch an investigation, possibly undercover, immediately. He didn't. Instead Alberty go to a pro-life group instead. Can't help but wonder today if/what Ms. Holly O'Donnell is getting paid by Center for Medical Progress...hum?

It's like when animal activists get a job on a farm or in a slaughterhouse to expose what's going on. Unless they altered the tapes there is little that can be done- and releasing unedited complete versions probably shields them from claims their editing was damaging.

The violation of 2 party consent laws for recording in CA should be actionable- but that's a criminal violation that the state needs to act on.

The original release of the heavily doctored videos are clearly libelous in my opinion. The release of the complete videos merely proves it. It would be outstanding if case could be made against that Republican rep as he appears to have colluded with the group to commit said libel.

Did they edit to only have the most "damaging" parts in the short videos? Of course.

I don't think that is enough unless they can show they claimed the people as individuals said things they did not say.

It's a hard case to win. Hell, dumbass George Zimmerman had a better case than that against NBC for how they edited his 911 tapes and didn't win.

The interviews and the narratives on their website also. The last two videos released mainly with Holly O'Donnell being interviewed, are very misleading. On top of that, CMP has a document vault where they show documents from Stem Express and other sources. Stem Express claims O'Donnell stole those documents. One memo shows a tissue order for D. Cohen, Harvard U and it shows Harvard's FEDEX ACCOUNT #. Another lawsuit in the making. Then CMP is opening themselves up to another lawsuit from Stem Express. The video with H. O'Donnell distorts and lies about Stem Express not getting consents from PP patients for tissue donations. This is CRITICAL for their business. Stem Express emphasizes that they comply with the law in all respects INCLUDING consents and they guarantee that their compliance is authenticated by an outside organization (name escapes me) whose rating is recognized in the medical community as a seal of approval. Holly O'Donnell claims her fellow Stem Express co-workers deliberately bypass getting consents (illegal). But in the strict record/paper trail of the law, NO bio-lab, medical research facility (like John Hopkins) or university (dozens) may ACCEPT ANY fetal tissue WITHOUT (by law) a form called the Additional Statement Document....fancy name huh. This document verifies that the tissue was donated and procured in compliance of the law and that no abortion procedure was altered in the process. The doctor has to sign this form. If the medical research facilities were not getting this form, they would be complaining to Stem Express and in the cmp document vault, there is a Stem Express form that CLEARLY DEBUNK's O'Donnell/CMP claims. Stem Express employee's have to note on the form for record purposes, the number on CONSENTS they got, which have to match the donor consent forms. Proves that Stem Express DOES comply with consents. CMP's effort to malign Stem Express could harm SE's reputation and finances. While this is not part of PP's lawsuit, I would think it is relevant to it, to show the patterns of deception by CMP.

Hopefully they will follow through on this story.. Jesus H Christ!!

Derek Foran, litigation partner with Morrison & Foerster, who is representing NAF in the lawsuit pro bono, said in a statement the he is confident the facts will show that CMP has engaged in an “extraordinary fraud” that was meant to harass abortion providers and endanger women’s access to abortion care.

“We are proud to stand with NAF and its members in the fight against anti-abortion extremists, who have smeared abortion providers and placed them in personal jeopardy, simply for ensuring the constitutional right of women in this country to make their own reproductive choices,” Foran said.

...it's probably a bad argument that you're trying to make.

But that's been a time-honored tactic of the extreme right: cut, splice, and smear. And the worst part of it is that people only seem to remember the lies, not the retractions that come out later.

I feel guilty for my moments of naivete in actually wondering about the veracity of these videos, like the Shirrod and the ACORN hatchet jobs before them. But I just think that from now on I'll have to operate under the assumption that anytime there's a video leaked from some sort of conservative cause, that it's to be considered fraud.

From document shredding, to the deliberate manipulation of military intelligence, to hacking and distorting scientists' emails, to anti-abortion propaganda, republitards dabble in deceit the way the impressionists did with oils.

Hope these James O'Keefe types will now back off PP. But I also hope PP keeps its guard way, way up from here on out. Patriarchy is war.

the moment they began violating a restraining order to boot. not that I'm a big fan of some of what PP does but the ones I know I kept repeating this video series will end up hurting their case than help it and they'd be hypocrites if they continue to buy stuff from the list of 38.
