AZ: THIS is a sticker my son's public high school forced all students to put in their science books

This. THIS is a sticker my son's public high school just forced all students to put in their science books:

Her son, a freshman at Gilbert High School in Gilbert, Arizona, told her that if students didn't put the abstinence-only education sticker in their textbooks, the student would have to speak with their grade-level administrator.

Just out of curiosity, what's the teen pregnancy rate in Gilbert? KamaAina Aug 2015 #8
Always a good question. It's usually considerably higher wherever kids are kept ignorant. nt Hekate Aug 2015 #10

A good friend of mine lives in AZ - his wife was transfered there by the VA from Wisconsin - and he just bangs his head at the reichwing idiocy out there. He also hates Snotty Scotty with a white-hot passion for wrecking his home state.

Arizona ranks second in the nation in regards to teen pregnancy, placing a great burden on these young mothers, their babies, and their families. But the costs of teen parenthood are not only personal. A 2004 study by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy found that teen childbearing costs Arizona taxpayers at least $252 million a year.

Gilbert is almost all white. AZ is high in teen pregnancy because of high rates among Hispanics and Natives. White 2.8%, Hispanic 9.7%, Native 12.2% and African American 8.4%.

And on their science books, no less. Not that I think it belongs on anything related to the school, but on the cover of the student handbook would seem more appropriate, and would also ensure that very few would read it because almost no one looks at those things.

I was denounced publicly by the administration as a "pocket of resistance" to the "strategic plan" of improving test scores by lowering requirements way back in my day. I could have so much fun with this!

is ridiculous. However, I do believe that reducing the number of abortions is not a bad thing, as long as the service remains available to those who choose it.

codes, good clinics/hospitals/midwife centers, various local religions and cultures' views on sexuality and families, intensive sexual education going way beyond just "the parts," a particular focus on minority teen mothers--even real rather than bubble economies that make it easy for new parents to move out or maintain an extended family at home

right?
