In Denver, Chick-fil-A’s anti-gay marriage stance is still front and center with the city council – so much so that some council members have blocked, at least temporarily, a location at Denver International Airport....

Normally, concession approval is not politically controversial but at a council meeting last Tuesday, 10 of the 13 council members were there and not a single one defended the fast food chain. It will go back into consideration on September 1st and nothing is sure. Several council members say that they are just vetting the proposal. Part of the problem is more logistical. The chain is not open on Sundays but the airport definitely is.

Discrimination against LGBT people has been illegal in Colorado since 2008. The state had its first same-sex marriage back in 1975, but it was ruled invalid. In 1996, the legislature tried to pass legislation banning same-sex marriage and that bill was vetoed. Same-sex marriage finally became legal in Colorado in October of last year.

There is no evidence that Chick-fil-A discriminates against LGBT people on the job, but some have complained about pressure to keep quiet about their sexual orientation for fear of being fired.
