RANT warning: Unemployment

So, a loved one of mine was fired yesterday.
Unjustly, I might add (she used FMLA and the company didn't like it. I think she needs to consult a labor lawyer. She says she's working on it).

Anyway, so, she goes to get unemployment and qualifies for $200 a week?

How is anyone supposed to live on that? Pay a mortgage, car payment, insurance, gas, groceries, utility bills, etc.

Is this a normal amount?

the higher the pay the more you get. it is just supposed to be a lifeline, not a substitution for work

The most anyone in Arizona can currently receive is $240 weekly. This is the second lowest amount in the United States.

You know who sets those limits. It all comes down to who gets voted in

I'm sure we would have it, if the FL experiment hadn't shown what a colossal waste of money it is....

it was because the courts ruled they had no constitutional right to test people without probable cause.

I'd like to test our governor because I think he's under somekind of wonder drug that makes his lizard brain hidden from the world.

fuck pRick Scott and his band of thieves.

5. I think in most states it's a function of your previous income.

In California the system looks at your highest-paid quarter, divides that by 26, and pays that amount up to a maximum of $450 a week.

Don't know if it is still active, but there used to be a website called the 405 Club where people posted things to do for cheap/free as well as info about co-op food groups and the like. Wealth of information about free afternoons at various museums and the like (unadvertized deals).

Unemployment is typically 1/3 to 1/2 of former earned income and IIRC, maxes out in 6 months.

11. Has she been approved for unemployment?

If she has, she wasn't fired. Firings are for cause and generally mean you can't file for unemployment. She was laid off. The terminology is important when she's looking for another job.

FMLA leave is messy and difficult. how big is her employer? If there's an FMLA issue, she should definitely consult with a lawyer.

Her employer was a large grocery chain.
She had been there for over 20 years.

I will make sure she gets a lawyer because I definitely think she has a case.

worth it to fight for a place with a company that would treat her so shabbily. OTOH, that's how the bastards get away with it.

care if you live or die.

I am disabled.

I live on $1082.00 per month.

I receive $113.00 per month in food stamps.

I live in rural Ohio.

I pay a mortgage.

I pay property taxes.

I pay home insurance.

I pay truck insurance.

There are no trains, subways, or buses available in my area.

I pay taxes on my phone, internet, and gas.

I need new glasses; they are not covered.

I haven't had an eye exam in nine years or new glasses.

My teeth are falling out; dental is not covered.

I have not been to a dentist in nine years.

I do not qualify for medicaid because my SSDI payment is considered to high

for me to qualify.

If the corporations are not screwing us the government is.

My situation will never change.

I have never lived beyond my means.

I have always been frugal with my money.

No one plans on being disabled or unemployed.

I support the $15.00 per hour minimum wage.

It will be of no help to me, but it will help millions.

The masters are getting upset at us slaves, trying to put us back into our rightful place.

They will lose.

I have gone years without gainful employment after an unfounded termination. It is getting so bad that I may leave the country. They will have to be strong and smart in order to survive while the Oligarchy is still in power.
