"So you have a crew ... when you are out, somebody has got to be the fall guy. Everybody has to know who is going to be the designated driver and, if necessary, everybody knows that if something goes wrong, somebody has to go to jail ... you'll get him out later ... but that person going to jail is NOT you."
Okay ... he didn't preach "taking personal responsibility" and "always do the right thing" to 22 year old multi-millions! (Yeah, that is going to happen ... I always made good decisions at 22, and I was broke!).
How is that any different from every other wise high profile celebrity's existence? (or, the existence of a high profile celebrity, with good management?) Cris kept it real!
Every crew should have one guy who's job it is is to say, "dude ... this ain't a good idea!", and one (or more) guy(s) who is a(are) "real one(s)" that handles the craziness, whether it is getting someone out your face or taking the weed/weapons charge.

(1,958 posts)Carter to speak to anymore rookies. They should have Matt Birk giving them advice.
Edit to add: only on financial matters.

(999 posts)Each year the NFL holds a symposium for rookies. They go over things like financial management and things like that. Funny thing is you have people like Keyshawn Johnson who was hawking high end car stereo systems outside of the event. Chris Carter is not a good guy, he was a drunk who got run out of Philly. He should thank his stars that he had Dennis Green as a coach in Minnesota.

(31,849 posts)but it is his drunkard experience taht informs his advice ... both, regarding the financials and the day to day.

(19,339 posts)Carter posted his apology on Twitter after an ESPN article drew attention to the remarks he made during a presentation last year. He told a group of rookies from NFC teams in the session that if any of them were to get into trouble off the field, it was important to have someone who would step forward and take the blame.
The NFL had video of the talk on its website for a year, but it was pulled after it came to light on Sunday night.
"Seeing that video has made me realize how wrong I was," Carter tweeted. "I was brought there to educate young people and instead I gave them very bad advice. Every person should take responsibility for his own actions. I'm sorry and I truly regret what I said that day."

Everyone in the high profile industry, be they athletes, entertainers or corporate execs, know exactly what he said is true.
