The Latest: Kentucky clerk again refuses to grant license
10:20 a.m.
William Smith Jr. and James Yates walked out of the clerk's office, shaking their heads in bewilderment.
Two months ago, the day after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized gay marriage across the nation, Yates got down on one knee and proposed to Smith, his partner of more than a decade.
They wanted to plan a summer wedding, so went days later to Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis' office for a license, and were turned away. That first time, they were shocked by the rejection.

Anti-Gay Kentucky Clerk Defies Court For Third Time, Appeals To SCOTUS
Submitted by Brian Tashman on Thursday, 8/27/2015 11:00 am
A Kentucky county clerk who has refused to issue any marriage licenses since the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide in June lost an appeal of her case in the Sixth Circuit yesterday. The federal appeals court held that the clerk, Kim Davis, cannot cite her personal religious views as a reason to stop a government office from performing its duties.
Earlier today, Davis office once again defied the court by denying a marriage license to a same-sex couple trying to receive a license for a third time.

(15,220 posts)Perhaps the fact that she put her hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the constitution, as opposed to the other way around, etc. might eventually come to her.
If she can't perform the requirements of the job, then she needs to find another job.

(5,477 posts)This little protest won't last much longer. Her supervisors will tell her to comply or be fired and she'll quietly start issuing licenses next week. We need to ignore Kim Davis.
