“Heckuva Job Brownie” blames everyone but himself for the Katrina fiasco
On this 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Politico is featuring a long, self-serving, intended exculpatory missive from Michael DeWayne Brown, whose resume includes
--Judges and Stewards Commissioner for the International Arabian Horse Association, (IAHA), from 1989-2001
--served as the first Undersecretary of Emergency Preparedness and Response (EP&R), a division of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This position is generally referred to as the director or administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). He was appointed in January 2003 by President George W. Bush and resigned following his controversial handling of Hurricane Katrina in September 2005. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_D._Brown).
The Politico screed blames the NOLA mayor, the Lousiana Governor, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, Congress, George W. Busheveryone but himself, someone completely devoid of the background, knowledge, contacts, credibility, skills, or resources to handle the job of chief emergency manager for the USA. After the Bush White House dismantled the world-class FEMA team assembled by Bill Clinton, Brownie was installed as a completely incompetent manager, apparently only because of his friendship with Bush campaign enforcer Joe Allbaugh.
